Brush on varnish?

Hey all!

So, just wanted to get some advice...

I am thinking about painting the Potter minis, and I have to admit I am having a recurrent nightmare about the frosting up when I varnish them.

So I figured maybe I should buy some brush-on matte varnish for them and brush it on... would that avoid frosting?

Also, does anyone know of any brush-on matte varnishes that they could recommend?

Thanks!

Brushing on inside should avoid frosting. The problems with the sprays occurs when sprayed in high humidity and/or cold temperatures. A well-shook can in hot and dry conditions shouldn't cause problems.

Brush on has the extra advantage of making it easier to do some parts matte and others glossy if you want to.

Since these are display miniatures that won't be handled to excess, I'd be tempted to forgo the varnish entirely.

Yeah, I considered that, Sirlarkins... the thing is, I plan to dip them at the end, which will create a serious gloss, and obviously I want them to be matted...

Maybe I won't even dip them at all, although I have to say I rather like the effect dip has; it pulls the figure together nicely. Maybe I'll play it by ear, and NOT dip them to start, and then at the end decide?

Sir,

I use aerosol Armory Clear Matte Sealer over Minwax water based dip with good results.

But I always do a test model to ensure the can is stiff good. But then again, the shine doesn't bother me and very few models ever have it removed.

Model Master Spray - Lusterless Flat. Neverhad a problem with it. Great stuff.
